World Changer Kristen

World Changer Kristen

Name: Kristen M.

Hometown: Birmingham, AL

Education: Samford University ‘06, Languages and World Trade, Spanish

Occupation: Missionary

Current location: Ukraine (but in one week she’s off to Berlin!)

Organization: The World Race (http://www.theworldrace.org)

What is the World Race? “The World Race is an 11-month Christian mission trip to 11 different countries around the world…” (according to theworldrace.org)

Where are you in your 11-month journey? “We’re in month ten and in six short weeks I’ll be home, for at least a month. [Later, I will]… head back to Iquitos, Peru, where I plan on staying for a while for orphan ministry. “

What will you be doing in Peru and for how long will you be there?
“I don’t have specifics yet, but I’m chatting with an Amazon Mission Organization who is interested in having me work with children in their orphanage, assisting in church planting, and reaching out to women in the communities surrounding Iquitos, Peru. I suspect I’ll leave in April and I’ll be there a minimum of 6 months. Details to come though…”

When did you know that you wanted to be involved in missions?
“My sophomore year of college when I went to Saltillo, Mexico on a spring break mission trip. I felt more at home in a Mexican village than I ever expected to. It was then that the Lord spoke to my heart and said I was content because I’d found my divine calling: loving on his children and teaching them about Jesus.”

What’s the weirdest thing you’ve eaten on the World Race?

“Only one thing? Ha. Hmm, tarantula, grasshopper, cockroach, beetle, crickets or dog were some of the strangest. You choose what the worst is. ((Ps These were all in Asia.))”

What’s your favorite city you’ve visited in the last ten months (or name 3 if you can’t choose)?

Phnom Penh, Cambodia
Moralane, Botswana
San Juan, Dominican Republic

What’s the strangest mode of transportation you’ve experienced so far?
“A plow transferred my team and I from one Thai village to the other. Slowest and most interesting ride of my life. There were also elephants grazing in fields next to us while the plow chugged along.”

How can we pray for you in these next 6 weeks?
“Next month at the conference [in Berlin] will be a big deal. I’ve never led worship in this capacity before and I’m a little anxious. I’d love some prayer! Also, we’re at a street children rehabilitation center this month and there are huge needs with provision and transition needed for the children.”
